The river is looking great! After a few hot days we have now passed the day (July 22) that is typically the seasonal peak air temperature. If historic trends continue, we should begin cooling into Fall.

The fish have been sitting in fast water and are eating happily. Fly selection has varied somewhat unusually day to day. Some days you can’t keep the fish off of a crayfish pattern, and the next day they won’t even look at it. The summer hatch of Pale Morning Dun mayflies has been somewhat light this year. The trout have switched to feeding on smaller insects which are more plentiful, Midges and Tricos when the PMDs aren’t around. Fishing small flies from 18-22 have been working well when the crayfish bite is off. Streamer fishing has been a little slow too, but still worthwhile, especially if we get some afternoon clouds/stormy days.

Flies we suggest: Cray Z Emma, Mini Crayfish, Hair Wing PMD, TNT PMD, BH Krystal Caddis, Missing Link, OCD Caddis, BH Zebra Midge, Polywing Emerger, RS2, Griffith Gnat, Hot Butt Nymph, Thin Mint Bugger, Kreelex, Truckee River Selection
